$225 Million Environmental Protection Fund Approved!

Shortly after 11pm Friday, June 23rd the State Assembly passed and the state leaders finished the environmental budget by approving a record $225 million for the 2006-07 Environmental Protection Fund (EPF). This is a huge victory for land conservation and land trusts in New York State!

The state has approved an historic permanent two year, $100 million dollar increase in annual dedicated funding that protects New York's land, air and water. Next year’s EPF funding will include $23 million for the state’s farmland purchase of development rights (PDR) program and $500,000 for the New York State Conservation Partnership Program, enabling a fifth round of matching land trust grants in 2007.

Members of the land trust community can and should celebrate this development. We urge you to thank the elected officials who helped make this happen.

More information on the 2006-07 Environmental Protection Fund budget will be posted soon. Please contact the Northeast Program office if you have any questions.
