
Every day thousands of people dedicate their time and energy to the precious work of conserving land in their communities. The Land Trust Alliance Awards Program seeks to honor the innovative work of our member land trusts and land conservationists across the nation.
Presented at Rally, these peer-nominated awards offer an opportunity to highlight some of the incredible and innovative land conservation successes, as well as recognize and thank our land trust community and leaders for their hard work and dedication to saving land. Kingsbury Browne Conservation Leadership Award
This award is the Alliance’s signature award, given annually to honor outstanding leadership, innovation and creativity in land conservation. The award celebrates individuals whose leadership has enriched the entire conservation community and whose contributions embody the values Kingsbury Browne demonstrated in his own life and work on behalf of the land trust movement. National Land Trust Excellence Award
This award is given to a land trust that excels in one of the following areas (one nominee will be chosen for this award):
A. Outstanding Policy Initiative
Achieves excellence in public policy (working with elected officials, passing a bond issue or state tax credit)
B. Outstanding Collaboration Initiative
Achieves shared conservation goals that involve multiple parties, disciplines or functions among land trusts and other partner
C. Outstanding Education and Outreach Initiative
Creates an innovative programming or outreach initiative that achieves significant impact on the conservation community and builds support and partnerships.
Criteria for all:
- Provides leadership
- Uses creative and innovative techniques to accomplish the goals and objectives of the project
- Is recognized by others in their community for their commitment and successes

National Conservation Volunteer of the Year
This award is given to a conservation volunteer who makes a significant contribution to the advancement of land conservation (ex: board member, advisor, Alliance faculty, writer for Saving Land magazine, etc.) Qualified nominees are known for their:
- Leadership in the conservation community
- Service that inspires the work of others
- Demonstration of humility in all activities to promote conservation
- Mentorship of fellow land trust practitioners in their work
