Mobilizing Land Trusts to Double the Pace
2007 was one of the most successful years in the history of land conservation, with many land trusts across America reporting more land conserved in 2007 than in any previous year.
The widespread success depended on three major parts:
- passage of a new federal tax incentive for land conservation,
- the Alliance’s intensive communications campaign to alert landowners, and
- the readiness of the land trust community to jump in and take advantage of the new opportunity.
Our achievements were made possible through the combined dedication and hard work of many people and communities at the local, state and national levels. As a result, more landowners could afford to—and did—conserve their land in 2007 than ever before. Collectively, these permanently protected farms, ranches, forests, and other natural areas are making a lasting impact on our world and the one our children will inherit—keeping our air clean, our water fresh, our farms productive, and our imaginations inspired.
